Mazzone to handle day-to-day operations of property adjacent to Proctors on State Street
Scotia, N.Y., – Mazzone Hospitality today announced an agreement in principal with the owners of the Parker Inn & Suites in Schenectady to take over the management and operation of the historic property. The arrangement is expected to begin this fall.
Under the agreement with owners Jim and Paola Horvath, Mazzone Hospitality will handle all management responsibilities of the Parker Inn & Suites, including booking and staffing the hotel, managing the breakfast area and cocktail space, and coordinating special events. Mazzone Hospitality will also oversee updates and renovations to the hotel’s lobby and other design elements.
The Parker Inn & Suites currently features 22 rooms and suites, a bar area that can accommodate groups of 50 to 75 people and an upstairs event space with room for 35 people.
“With our vast experience in hospitality and management of boutique properties, this is a perfect fit for our team,” said Matthew Mazzone, Chief Financial Officer of Mazzone Hospitality. “We are deeply invested in the Schenectady area, as evidenced by longtime downtown restaurant Aperitivo Bistro and our new event space, Key Hall, as well as Glen Sanders Mansion, located just across the river in Scotia. We want the Inn to succeed and see a tremendous opportunity with this agreement to help all of these locations continue to thrive and to create a cohesive section of downtown Schenectady that can cater to guests in a variety of ways.”
“We have enjoyed a 15-year relationship with Mazzone Hospitality and knew this would be a perfect fit for the Parker Inn & Suites. Mazzone truly is a top-notch hospitality company,” said Jim and Paola Horvath. “We have deep roots in Schenectady and wanted a partner that shared our love for the community. We are excited to reinvent the Parker Inn & Suites with a new management team and a renovated hotel lobby and lounge space.”
Angelo Mazzone purchased Glen Sanders Mansion in 1988 and conducted various upgrades to the existing house, including the addition of a restaurant, two ballrooms and a 22-room inn. The property has grown to become one of the area’s premier event spaces and hotels. Mazzone Hospitality plans to replicate that success and management philosophy at the Parker Inn & Suites.
“We want to make sure historic places like the Parker Inn & Suites are successful here in Schenectady,” said Matthew Mazzone. “We have worked closely with the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority and the Horvaths to make this agreement a reality and ensure that the Parker Inn & Suites remains open.”
Mazzone Hospitality also envisions synergy between the hotel and adjoining Key Hall at Proctors, an anchor of downtown Schenectady. The additional event space at the Parker Inn provides more options for those holding functions at Key Hall. For instance, an event could start with a cocktail hour at the Parker Inn & Suites and conclude with a more formal affair at neighboring Key Hall.
