Boston Rescue Mission volunteer selected as Hannaford Health Hero
Chestnut Hill resident recognized for commitment to promoting health and wellness
BOSTON, Massachusetts – A volunteer with the Boston Rescue Mission has been selected by Hannaford Supermarkets as a “Hannaford Health Hero” for her dedication to encouraging healthy eating habits for homeless individuals.
Esther Lee, 45, of Chestnut Hill, volunteers weekly with the Boston Rescue Mission to plan and prepare over 2,000 healthy meals for homeless individuals being served by the organization’s meal program. Lee routinely purchases supplies and makes salad for the meal program each week.
Lee is the eighth Bay State resident to be recognized this year by Hannaford Supermarkets in conjunction with the Hannaford Health Hero program. Now in its second year, the program will recognize the work of 12 volunteers who inspire others within the community to make healthy choices for life on behalf of non-profit organizations.
“At Hannaford, we strongly believe in promoting health and wellness within the communities we serve,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Molly Tarleton. “We are thrilled to honor Esther as a Hannaford Health Hero and commend the Boston Rescue Mission for its commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles for Massachusetts residents.”
In recognition of the organization’s commitment to health and wellness, the Boston Rescue Mission will receive a $250 Hannaford gift card. Lee will also receive a $50 Hannaford gift card.
Lee was nominated by Mauricia Darvish, volunteer coordinator of the Boston Rescue Mission, which provides basic life necessities such as food, shelter and social service programs to homeless men and women in the Greater Boston area.
In the nomination, Darvish wrote, “A lot of the people we serve are not always introduced to healthy eating habits, but we strive to prepare the healthiest meals possible. Esther is truly committed to this effort.”
