Communications and Events Specialist
Joe Mixie joined ELA as a Communications and Events Specialist in May 2024, bringing nearly a decade of media relations experience.
He previously spent six years in Athletic Communications at Siena College, where he assisted in the promotion and execution for all 21 of Siena’s NCAA Division I athletic programs, while serving as the primary contact for eight sports. He also spent six seasons as the radio play-by-play voice of Siena Women’s Basketball, and as a broadcaster for various other Siena Athletics events. Aside from his broadcast work at Siena, he served as the play-by-play voice and media relations coordinator for the Tri-City ValleyCats Professional Baseball Team in Troy, NY, during the 2019 and 2021 seasons.
During his time at Siena, Joe served on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming & Diving Committee, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Young Professionals Committee, and the Siena Homecoming Committee. He served as the advisor for Siena Club Swim and The Promethean Student Newspaper and provided editorial guidance to the department to support its COVID Resocialization efforts in 2020. He provided media relations assistance for the 2019 NCAA Women’s Basketball Albany Regional and 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Albany First & Second Rounds, and served as the Media Coordinator for the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Albany Super Regional.
Joe came to the Capital Region following a stint at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fl, where he served in a similar capacity from Aug. 2017 through Sept. 2018. During his time in the River City, he worked primarily with seven of the Dolphins’ programs, as well as a play-by-play announcer and color commentator for the school’s broadcasts involving eight different sports. While in Jacksonville, Joe spent the entire 2017 season and the beginning of the 2018 campaign as a game day public relations worker with the National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars, assisting with press box statistic distribution and serving as a post-game interview transcriber. He also worked as a radio producer with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
A native of Milford, Conn, Joe is a 2017 graduate of Liberty University with bachelor’s degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Digital Media-Performance.
He resides in Albany with his wife, Rachel, and newborn son, Jacob, accompanied by their golden retriever, Maple.
