The Adirondack Thunder will go on the power play this holiday season to support Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, one of the largest, private, social service agencies in the region which assists those in need with food, clothing and shelter, among other basic necessities.
Thunder fans can participate in a silent auction for a chance to win a special Adirondack Thunder prize pack during the team’s home contests on Saturday, Nov. 30 against the Reading Royals and on Saturday, Dec. 14 against the Maine Mariners. The exclusive Thunder prize pack will include official team merchandise, team-signed Thunder gear and other exciting items.
Fans can bid on these prize packs from the opening of doors to the conclusion of the second period intermission at the Catholic Charities table located in the lobby of Cool Insuring Arena. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Catholic Charities to support its mission of helping those in need this holiday season.
All fans who donate to Catholic Charities will also receive a free Adirondack Thunder decal.
“We are grateful to the Adirondack Thunder for their support in helping us to further our mission of providing the most vulnerable populations in the region with much-needed assistance,” said Catholic Charities Chief Executive Officer Sister Betsy Van Deusen. “These opportunities to showcase what we do as a charitable organization are invaluable and we can’t thank the Thunder organization enough for hosting us during two games this holiday season.”
Catholic Charities will be on-site at Cool Insuring Arena on Nov. 30 for the Adirondack Thunder’s 10th Anniversary celebration, with the first 1,000 kids receiving a commemorative youth jersey, while the team will wear special “10th anniversary” jerseys on the ice.
Catholic Charities will return on Dec. 14 when the Thunder host Teddy Bear Toss and First Responders Night. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free firefighter helmet. Fans are also encouraged to bring stuffed animals to toss onto the ice after the Thunder score.
“We are proud to host Catholic Charities during the holiday season and to support the vital work they do in our communities,” said Adirondack Thunder President Jeff Mead. “We are confident Thunder fans will embrace the opportunity to assist our underserved neighbors in the North Country, who are the direct beneficiaries of the many programs offered by Catholic Charities every day.”
Established in 1917 as a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Albany, Catholic Charities helps an estimated 70,000 people each year across the fourteen local counties that it serves, with the majority of these individuals receiving multiple services with a total reach of services going well beyond 70,000. The 501c3 agency offers a wide spectrum of services, from addressing basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter; to more specialized support for the most vulnerable in our communities, including individuals with developmental disabilities, pregnant and parenting teens, the unemployed, victims of domestic violence, and the homeless.
