Hannaford Supermarkets to celebrate opening of Cairo store
New 35,000-square-foot supermarket celebrates a grand opening with two days of special events, Hannaford to donate $14,000 to Cairo community organizations
CAIRO, New York – Hannaford Supermarkets will mark the grand opening of its new Cairo store, located at 223 Main Street, with a two-day celebration on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20.
The new Hannaford will serve the Cairo community and employ about 100 associates. The opening will bring Hannaford’s total number of stores in New York to 50.
The new 35,000-square-foot store includes a number of features designed to create an outstanding overall shopping experience for customers, including a butcher shop, produce and seafood departments, a bakery and deli, a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru, and access to an on-site Hannaford registered dietitian.

The grand opening celebration will begin on Saturday, October 19 at 7 a.m. The first 300 customers through the doors will each receive a Hannaford mystery gift card valued between $5 and $250 and the first 500 customers will receive a customized Hannaford tote bag. Customers also will have the opportunity to win a $20 Hannaford gift card once every 15 minutes between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Beginning Saturday, shoppers can also enter to win free Hannaford gift cards during the grand opening celebration. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 Hannaford gift card. Four first prize winners will receive a $250 Hannaford gift card and 10 second prize winners will receive a $50 Hannaford gift card. The winners will be selected by random drawing on Tuesday, December 31.
The Cairo Hannaford registered dietitian will show shoppers how to eat healthy on a budget during store tours at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Additionally, shoppers can visit the Hannaford pharmacy for free health screenings from 9 a.m. to noon. Free samples of recipes created with Hannaford private-label products will also be available throughout the day.
On Sunday, October 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., all customers will receive a coupon with their purchase valued between $5 and $10 off an order of $30 or more. Families will also be invited to paint a miniature pumpkin throughout the afternoon. Free samples of local New York products will also be offered.
The grand opening celebration will continue throughout the month of November with a series of special offerings for shoppers, including giveaways, events and product samples.
On Sunday, November 3, Hannaford will host a Community Appreciation Day from noon to 4 p.m. In recognition of the grand opening, representatives from Hannaford will present a total of $9,500 to a series of Cairo community organizations, including the Cairo Food Pantry, Cairo Public Library, Cairo Parks and Recreation Department, Cairo Little League, Northern Catskill Youth Association and Cairo Pop Warner. Additionally, Hannaford will provide a $4,500 grant to the Cairo-Durham Central School District.
On Saturday, November 16, Hannaford will host a Health and Wellness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 100 pharmacy customers will receive a flu shot gift card. The in-store Hannaford registered dietitian will conduct store tours and be available to answer nutrition questions.
Additionally, customers will be invited to visit the pharmacy for free cholesterol, BMI, blood pressure and skin analysis health screenings. The day will also include free healthy giveaways for kids, sampling of nutritious products and healthy gift basket giveaways.
The Cairo store is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pharmacy hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
