The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital today hosted a special gaming party for patients at the children’s hospital. Kids of all ages had the opportunity to play their favorite video games, courtesy of ELITE Gaming, at an event aimed to bring joy to patients while raising awareness of Dunkin’s upcoming annual Iced Coffee Day fundraiser.
On Thursday, June 20, the first day of summer, $1 from every Iced Coffee sold will support the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s mission to bring joy to kids battling illness in local hospitals. Funds raised locally will support Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, and go toward updating the hospital’s gaming systems, game library and new gaming technology.
“We are thrilled to once again be the beneficiary of Iced Coffee Day from our surrounding Dunkin’ locations,” said Upstate Foundation Development Director Danielle Bright. “Funds raised through Iced Coffee Day purchases this year will help support our gaming program at the hospital, which provides a fun, creative outlet and escape for patients undergoing care here at the children’s hospital. Participating in games while awaiting a surgery, blood draws or radiation helps ease fears while normalizing the hospital experience for a patient.”
Over the last two years, Dunkin’ franchisees across the country have generously donated more than $3.4 million through the Iced Coffee Day program. The Foundation has awarded nearly 200 grants to children’s hospitals, supporting various child life programs. This year, the Foundation aims to raise over $1.8 million, with 100% of the funds going towards these programs.
Iced Coffee Day has raised more than $322,000 for nonprofit organizations in Central New York, and raised $36,000 for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital last year.
