Malta-based property near Luther Forest Technology Campus undergoes identity makeover to highlight distinct residential and growing retail communities
MALTA, N.Y.– Ellsworth Commons, the popular retail and residential community in downtown Malta, today announced a renaming of the property to feature two unique identities: the boutique apartment complex now known as The Ellsworth and its accompanying retail and office marketplace, Malta Center.
Developed more than a decade ago to support the nearby burgeoning Luther Forest Tech Park, today the community incorporates a four-building configuration that houses 312 apartments and 60,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial, retail and office space at 2545 Route 9 in Malta.
“Creating two distinct identities for this unique property is pivotal to its growth and continued success,” said Aker Senior Vice President Tina Ladd. “We are thrilled to witness both the residential and retail communities flourish with property improvements, expanded amenities, and a brand makeover. Our goal is to cultivate a thriving destination of local retailers and businesses in the heart of Malta, and nurture a sense of community through resident engagement. We are excited to promote a synergy between the residential and commercial uses.”
Located along the Route 9 Corridor just north of the traffic circle at Route 67, The Ellsworth and Malta Center offer spacious apartments, onsite eateries, retail storefronts and a variety of services. Additional shopping, restaurants, Luther Forest Tech Campus, GlobalFoundries and I-87 North are a convenient five-minute drive.
Malta Center, the onsite retail and commercial office market, is home to a growing variety of food and drink shops, health and well-being destinations and retail businesses and services including, but not limited to:
- Bowled – An eatery offering a healthy menu featuring acai, smoothies, grain bowls, salads and more;
- Bua Thai Sushi – A restaurant offering traditional Thai cuisine and authentic sushi dishes;
- Dollhouse & Co. – A distinctive hair salon specializing in blondes, balayage and extensions;
- Meliora Family Medicine – Jessica Davis, M.D. offering integrative health care for new moms;
- Valentino’s Hair Salon & Barbershop – A full-service barbershop and salon.
Sugar Fairy Bakes, a made-from-scratch bakery and Malta Center’s newest tenant, is the sister shop of its founding namesake in Mechanicville. Owner Stacie Blair initially had plans to build from the ground up in Malta. However, in 2022, Malta Center became the ideal fit for Blair’s upscale bakery and locally sourced coffee shop. Securing a storefront at Malta Center along Route 9 on the ground floor of 400 apartments was everything Blair could have hoped for.
“Malta Center has offered me a lot of new opportunities. The potential here is limited only by my imagination,” Blair said, citing its vitality, curb appeal and affordability within a centralized suburban area just outside of downtown Saratoga Springs.
Sugar Fairy Bakes celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special giveaways on June 24.
Forthcoming improvements to Malta Center include enhanced landscaping and visibility along Route 9; paving and parking upgrades; uniform awnings along the building exterior; and new signage throughout the property. Additional incentives for prospective commercial and retail tenants include an emphasis in securing complementary local businesses and services, competitive rental rates and owner investment in tenant build-out and upgrades.
Businesses at Malta Center will also receive complimentary marketing to more than 2,000 households in the region as part of the Saratoga Collective and Troy Collective newsletters. Businesses will be listed on the property’s new website and directory: MaltaCenterNY.com.
Additional Malta Center tenants include: Central Insurance Agency; Cetnar Consulting Group; Dance Evolution; Gunning Elite Training; House of Polish; Power Communications; Quest Diagnostics; Saratoga Hospital OBGYN & Midwifery; and Vincent J. Giaimo, D.D.S.
Exclusive leasing space is currently available for storefronts ranging in size from 950 to more than 4,000 square feet.
