Hannaford to also offer free parking and free skate rentals during the New York State Holiday Tree Lighting, presented by SEFCU, on December 4
ALBANY, New York – Hannaford Supermarkets will once again provide individuals and families with a fun and affordable way to stay active this winter with free skate rentals at the Empire State Plaza ice rink each Friday of the 2016-17 season.
The first Hannaford Free Skate Rental Friday will coincide with opening day of the Empire State Plaza ice rink on Friday, December 2 (weather permitting). The ice rink will officially open at 11 a.m. for the season. Admission is free and open to the public.
Additionally, for the first time, Hannaford will offer free skate rentals and free parking after 3 p.m. to those attending the New York State Holiday Tree Lighting, presented by SEFCU, on Sunday, December 4. The tree lighting ceremony begins at 5:15 p.m. and concludes with a fireworks show.
The 2016-17 season marks the fifth consecutive year that Hannaford has partnered with the New York State Office of General Services to provide free skate rentals at the Empire State Plaza ice rink. Since the program’s inception in 2012, approximately 15,000 individuals have enjoyed free skate rentals, courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets.

General Rink Information
- Hours: Every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather dependent. The rink will be closed daily from 3 to 4 p.m. for maintenance.
- Cost to Skate: Free
- Skate Rental: $3 for children 12 and under and $4 for adults. A photo ID is required to rent skates. Every Friday is free skate rental Friday courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets.
- Amenities: A full-service snack bar open Friday nights and weekends and a skate lounge with lockers for personal items are located on the Plaza level.
