Fans who make a $5 donation will receive a free ticket voucher to a future Siena basketball game
ALBANY, N.Y. – In an effort to help those recovering from Hurricane Irma, Siena Athletics and the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York will host a pair of fundraisers during the Siena men’s and women’s basketball home games against Florida Gulf Coast University this season.
The first fundraising event will take place during the men’s basketball home opener against two-time defending Atlantic Sun Champion and NCAA Tournament participant Florida Gulf Coast, also known as “Dunk City,” on Monday, November 13 at 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center.
Siena Athletics will also collect donations during the women’s home game against Florida Gulf Coast on Monday, November 20 at 7 p.m. at the Alumni Recreation Center. The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team is the defending Atlantic Sun Conference Champion and is coming off an appearance in the NCAA Women’s Division I Tournament.
Fans who donate $5 or more to the American Red Cross will receive a free ticket voucher to a future Siena men’s or women’s basketball regular season home game for the 2017-’18 season. Donations will be accepted at the American Red Cross booth located on the main concourse of the Times Union Center during the men’s game; and at the entrance to the Alumni Recreation Center during the women’s game. All donations will assist Hurricane Irma relief efforts in South Florida.
“Hurricane Irma has had a lasting impact on the lives of numerous families in the state of Florida, and we are pleased to partner with the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York to assist the many residents of the Gulf Coast,” said Siena College Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “We hope the Capital Region community will turn out in great numbers to support the dedicated efforts of the first responders and volunteers who remain actively engaged in the rebuilding efforts in Florida, and Siena will be happy to reward our fans who donate with a ticket to a future game this season.”
During each game, representatives from the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York will be available to answer questions about volunteer opportunities.
“In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, Red Cross volunteers and partners have served more than 1.5 million meals and snacks and distributed more than 1 million relief items,” said Gary Striar, Regional CEO for the American Red Cross. “A response of this magnitude requires tremendous support, and it would not be possible without generous donors. We are grateful to Siena Athletics for partnering with us to give Capital Region residents a special opportunity to help hurricane victims when they come out to enjoy Siena basketball.”
